Miss W’s first boudoir session.

My first holiday boudoir session of 2017 and the introduction of the curtain of lights.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The temperature is dropping, Christmas lights are going up, and holiday boudoir sessions are in full swing. Miss W certainly got into the spirit of things with her recent yule-inspired boudoir session.

This year I’m introducing something new. I’m calling it the curtain of lights. If you know me, you know I’m all about the magical glow of Christmas lights. If I could, I’d leave them up all year. This might actually give me the opportunity to do just that.

Miss W was gracious enough to allow me to test out my idea during our session. I was so stunned by the results that I immediately ran out and bought more of them as soon as we were done. How much more? Well, let’s just say that I have achieved Clark Griswold levels as I’ve popped the circuit breaker a couple times already.

The results were amazing. I got several shots that I’ve never gotten before. The backdrop of sparkling, warm, luminous glow complimented Miss W perfectly. She was amazing. The session was light hearted and fun with hints of naughtiness that might have made Santa recheck his list.

So many ideas were generated by the session that we’ve already decided to go again to try and capture them. I actually went back out a third time to get more items to try those out as well. I’m seriously tempted to do ugly Christmas sweater shots, for example.

I still offer the other boudoir styles found here, by the way. We can do Light Side, Dark Side or a mix of the two. The holiday spin is just another layer of playtime that I offer. Whichever way you want to play, contact me today for your holiday session.

Miss B’s Virginia Beach Boudoir session.

It was her first time doing one and she had concerns. Everyone does at first.

Miss B had never done a boudoir session before so she had a lot of questions and doubts. She was unsure of herself and didn’t know what to expect. Because of this she was a bit nervous about doing one.

Sound familiar? It should as 75% of the people I work with have never had a professional photography session before, much less a boudoir session. Talk about going from a full stop to a sprint with no warm up in between.

There area slew of questions to be answered and fears to be calmed. That’s where a true professional photographer steps in. They answer all your questions without hesitation. They even answer the ones you haven’t thought of yet. They assure you with their portfolio, presence, and demeanor. They set up a plan with you to create art that flatters and inspire.

I have given several reasons why someone should consider doing a boudoir session in previous posts. As I move along in my own journey of being a boudoir photographer I’m learning that it all boils down to two main reasons:

Do it for you. Do it because it’s fun.

All the other reasons I can think of are derivatives of those two.

Miss B did. Within 10 minutes of starting she had visibly relaxed and truly began to enjoy herself. Several times during the session the camera was a foot away from her face and she didn’t even blink. Her power and confidence just flowed through the entire session. I’ll end this entry with her own words.

“I had an amazing experience! Mark gave me overall control on how I wanted the shoot to go and what happened to the images after. I felt completely comfortable and relaxed during our session. He gave me helpful tips and tricks for outfits, poses, and expressions. I definitely would shoot again with Mark.”

Kristin B’s boudoir session at the beach.

She was in Virginia Beach for a weekend and wanted new images for her businesses and her herself.

Kristin and I have a history. I’m not exaggerating when I say that she was instrumental in making who I am today as a portrait photographer. You can read about that here. She was in town recently and wanted new images done for a variety of reasons. That included, for the first time with me, boudoir images.

The catch was that they only time she was available was Sunday morning before 8am and it had to be done at her oceanfront hotel room.

Challenge accepted.
