Do it for yourself, first.
Miss D wanted to do a boudoir session just for herself. She wasn’t doing it for a significant other. In fact, she came out of a relationship not long before our session. She wasn’t celebrating a birthday or life event. The resulting images would not be a Christmas gift to someone else. She wanted to do it just because.
That’s one of the barriers women face while thinking about doing a session. They don’t think they are worthy of one. They need an outside motivation or reason. I’ve had some tell me that they thought it was a bit selfish to put themselves first. After some thought I can see why they would think so.
Women have been taught from day one to put other’s needs and desires above their own. Right or wrong, that’s just the way it seems to me. Then when you add family to the mix, well, the desires get pushed even further back. There just doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day or energy left in the tank.
Well, I put it to you. If you don’t take care of yourself from time to time, how effective can you be to others? If you don’t have the occasional “me” day then you won’t be your best. There is absolutely nothing wrong with putting yourself first from time to time.
Which brings us back to Miss D. She wanted to feel special. To feel desirable. To feel, as I’ve been known to say from time to time, like the center of the universe. So that’s what we did. There was no overarching theme or concept other than to just have fun and capture images of her enjoying some “me” time.
