My first session with Athena won’t be my last.

The best boudoir sessions happen when the client is just being themselves.

First – a little business. I’ve set aside next Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday for last minute Valentine’s sessions. After that there will won’t be enough time to get the finished product back before the big day. Most spots are filled but there are a couple openings left for those looking to get one in

Now onto the fun stuff.

I had the great honor of working with Athena recently. She has a powerful presence that I just adore. She can flip from sweet and cute to “whoa, momma” and everything in between in a heartbeat. We talked about a session where, as it was the first time we’ve worked together, we could explore more of the softer side as a way to introduce ourselves to each other. If it went well, then we could explore further later on.

This is a call to action to every woman who thinks they can’t do a boudoir session.

I need more people like Mrs. R to be ambassadors for others.

The biggest misconception, I find, about doing a boudoir session is that you must be 18, flawless, and size -2 to look good doing it. I’m here to say that is totally wrong. In my opinion, the only thing someone needs is an open mind backed by a strong photographer.

I know the concerns, I feel them deeply and emphasize with them. I really do. “I need to lose weight”, “I’m too old”, “I have stretch marks”, “I don’t look like the women you have on your site”, “I’m not special, I don’t deserve it”, et cetera.

That voice inside your head trumps anything anyone can say.  I totally get it. There is no amount of words or phrasings that I can generate that will overcome some people’s fears and doubts.

Which is way I’m posting this call to action today. I need you. I need women of all ages, shapes, sizes, races, those that are pregnant, those with handicaps, survivors of illness, et cetera, to step forward and show the rest that they can do it. I need you to be a vanguard for others. Lead the way.

The return of the sassy Miss T.

Announcing Celebration Sessions.

Miss T., a veteran of this site, was recently in town visiting family for the holidays. Time is always tight during such things so it was an honor when she reached out to me to do a session during her short stay.

As always, whenever we get together, I have all I can do to hold on and keep up as she is just a force of nature in front of the camera. She becomes this magical thing, I just try to document it as best I can.

During the session we chatted about a variety of things. I mentioned a concept that had been brewing in my head for a bit – Boudoir Celebration Sessions. She really took to the idea and gave me some invaluable insights.

Miss W’s first boudoir session.

This one of those entries where I step back and let the person in front of the camera talk. Full disclosure – I’ve known Miss W for several years now as a fellow photographer and friend but this is the first time I’ve worked with her in this manner.

What a great way to start the new year!

Happy New Year, my friends.

2016 was great, 2017 will be even better.

Happy New Year, my friends. As I sit here reflecting on 2016, I realized it was actually amazing.

This was the busiest year I’ve had, photographically, in a long time. Between the portrait side, the boudoir side and the Women of Power project that I shot I have filled hard drives full of images. Last time I looked there were 50 folders of images generated in 2016.

A quick count shows that I worked with over 30 new people that I never worked with before. That’s amazing to me. I did my first ever couples boudoir session and my first transgender boudoir session. I can’t wait to do more. I developed new styles like Luminous, Light Side, Dark Side, Form, etc. I also started to publicize private and small group photo lessons.

2017 is shaping up to be even better. I’ve put out a Couples session promo and a Valentine’s Day boudoir promo. Check those out. I’ve recently purchases new props that are already being used and working out really well. I’m working on a new concept called Celebration Sessions which should roll out soon. I’m also working on a small studio space here for headshots, fitness, fashion, beauty, etc., when the weather isn’t co-operating.

I’m also heading back to school to finish a degree that I started way back in 2004 but had to stop due to financial reasons. This will open up a whole new world of new images as I work on school projects.

So, for those that helped me be as successful as I was in 2016 I humbly, deeply thank you. I couldn’t have done it without you. Now hold on to your hats for 2017.
