Time’s running out for a sensual session…or is it?
I looked at the calendar this morning and realized that Spring arrives in two weeks. For most photographers this is means transitioning from winter style sessions, like boudoir, to warm weather sessions like beach and other outdoor venues. I will be one of those photographers as my main raison d’etra is shooting somewhere out on location.
But, and this is a very big but, this does not mean I’ll be taking down my sensual shingle until the return of colder weather. On the contrary I will continue to offer these sensual sessions all year long. In my mind there is no reason why one should start and another end. Let me explain why.
One, there is no reason why we can’t continue to do these sessions indoors in the traditional style. The light is light – that doesn’t change. Instead of turning on the heat to keep to keep us warm we’ll be turning up the ac. That will be the only difference.
Another benefit of the traditional sensual session is that the days are longer which means more light later in the day. In the winter the sun sets by 5-6 pm which really limits the time available to us. If someone works Mon-Fri, 8 to 4, we’re pretty much limited to weekend sessions. In the summer you could get home at 4:30, prep, and we can start a session at 5. This still gives us 2-3 very useable hours of light to work with after work.
Another reason not to give up the sessions is that we CAN take it outside. The more I developed the seriously sensual concept the more I realized that the boudoir is just one component of what makes a session sensual. We can easily do a sensual session on the beach or in an urban setting. We can take it to any location, to be honest. I’ve been shooting these for years so I know the ins and outs of where to go and whens the best time to do these sessions.
So, while others will be shutting down, I’ll be gearing up. I’ll be working the commercial side, to be sure, but I won’t be winding down the sensual side. Instead I’ll be ramping it up even more as I further develop the sensual concept.
Cristina here is an excellent example of this concept. Her and I first worked together on a beach session last summer. We clicked so well together that we put our heads together for a sensual session. I think the images speak for themselves so all I’ll say is that I can’t wait to collaborate with her again in any way.
